Week 2 Day 5

Today I eagerly looked forward to getting back in the gym. The rest day yesterday had been greatly appreciated by my body, however, and I felt pretty good for most of the day.

A couple times I had some problems at work, but for once I decided to outsource my problems and get help (something I never do). It at least unloaded some of the stress off my shoulders.

My meals were good today and I packed enough food for the day. But by the time I left school (I stayed to do some grading), I was starving!

Luckily enough, my husband was on his way home and was starving as well. So we made the potentially dangerous idea of going out to eat.

Now there was a Mexican restaurant that we’ve always wanted to try called “Tres Carnales”. So for once, we decided to go.

Pretty cool decor, everything Mexican!

I could have eaten way off track, but I decided not to. I ordered a pollo (chicken in Spanish) quesadilla. The ingredients? Fresh everything: corn tortilla, slow cooked shredded chicken and a little bit of cheese. Bingo. I know some of you are looking at that cheese and thinking there is no way that could fit my macros, but guess what! I fit cheese into my daily plan every day. It’s all about the amount you eat and what you’re willing to sacrifice. I find having cheese in my daily plan helps me with cravings because I already feel like I’m getting a treat.

One of the appetizers my husband ordered. They hand make their tortilla chips (so good) and their guacamole is one of the best I've ever had!!

After Tres Carnales, we went to the gym and I completed my workout; a round of 8 exercises including the dreaded burpees. I also completed 12 minutes HIIT on the stairs.

Week 2 Day 5 is DONE!

Kombucha: Weird, but Amazing!

I have never been one to love tea. I’m incredibly guilty of being a tea-hater most of my life. Of course, tea is really good for you. But up until recently, I had no reason good enough to drink it.

I love shopping at organic food stores. Unfortunately, it costs a fortune to buy your groceries from there. So often, I buy most of my groceries elsewhere, and buy select groceries from the organic stores. Naturally, I like to get what I call a “treat” from the organic store since they have so many “healthy” options to our “bad foods”.

One day, not wanting to try another “healthy soda pop”, I saw some bottles labelled “Kombucha Drink”. I read the labels quickly, saying that it was by a company called GTS, super healthy for you, helps detoxify your body, and very good for you overall. So I decided, why not! Slightly expensive, at approximately $3.49 a bottle, I only got one. There were quite a few flavours to try. My very first flavour was: Synergy Trilogy. Seriously, who knew why I picked that one other than the bottle was pretty. I had no idea what I was in for!

There were 2 parts of the label I failed to see. One was NOT to shake the bottle before opening. It is carbonated, and it ended up on my shirt sleeve. The second one, was that there will be cultures appearing in the drink, but that it is natural. I assumed it was like a fruit juice where some things had settled on the bottom and you had to shake it before drinking. So very wrong. The cultures were slimy. I did figure out eventually that the cultures stay near the bottom, so that if you drink half of the bottle, it is safe to shake it after that as the cultures will disappear into the drink and there won’t be enough “fizz” to spill out of the bottle. I got smart!

Now, I have a habit of smelling things that are “new”. I got a surprise when smelling Kombucha… it has a distinct smell of vinegar! Oh well, I had learned as a child that not everything tastes the same way that it smells. And for this, it was true.

I wasn’t sure if I had liked the Kombucha at first or not. But the more I drank, the more I liked. Since then, I have tried almost all of the flavours (except the alcoholic ones as I do not drink alcohol). I have not found one that I did not like! I do feel like they help my body, and look forward to a “Kombucha” treat anytime I can. I highly recommend you try these wonderful drinks and see the wonders for yourself.

I know there are other companies that have gotten into the Kombucha trend. I have to say that I have only tried the GTS company’s Kombucha. Feel free to experiment, but I will safely say, you won’t be disappointed. GTS, you are a genius!
